A Letter from Kenya for prayer in Kenya

Dear brother,

I greet you in the name of Jesus Christ. I am sending today a detailed report so that you can know how to pray better and letting our brothers and sisters over there pray for Kenya. The situation is really worrying and we do not know when peace is really coming. After the Dec 2007 Elections, the result was disputed people citing flaws in the tallying process. This led to violence that hit most parts of the country.

Before the elections some group of politicians began advocating for a devolved kind of system which was misinterpreted just like what happened in 1991-1996 with the introduction of multi-parties in Kenya . Our former president's tribesmen interpreted it as removing their man from power. This time round, people misinterpreted devolution, as meaning every one tracing and going back to their ancestral roots. Kenya has 42 different tribes that are grouped into 8 provinces. For example the Luhyia come from western province, kikuyus from central province, Luos from Nyanza province and Kalenjins from rift valley province. Since all tribes are scattered all over the country, to the common man devolution meant going back to the province one comes from by force. The election results seemed to be a scapegoat to what is currently happening. All the displaced and those who have lost property have been affected as a result of tribal animosity.

Lastly we bought some food stuffs and blankets for more than 200 families. This week we engaged in a mission to rescue/evacuate one of our pastors and his family who have been camping at the police camp . We later visited some of his church members who have also been displaced and camping in refugee camps. We were able to buy some blankets and foodstuffs. During the mission, we were able to interview the following:

(1) A Pastor,
Arsonists struck in the morning at 7.00am and attacked the whole village. He was able to rescue his 8 children and they ran for safety at the nearest police camp that is 2km away from home. His house was burnt. They lost everything including 20 bags of maize, 4 cows, beddings and everything.

(2) Above Pastor dad
He lives some 1km his son's home.
He narrated a very sad ordeal. Before he escaped, arsonists found him at his neighbor's home. They then shot dead his host, wife and 12 year child before burning their house. He only escaped when he ran in the herd of cows and arrows meant to down him ended on animals. He then ran to the police camp where he found his wife and 6 other children already there. We also brought him and now in my dad's compound in Kitale.

(3) A 38 year old woman
Her husband was murdered using machetes. She survived with 4 children aged between 2 years and 12 years old. She was mercilessly beaten too and has many injuries.

(4) A 35 years old woman
She has a 7 month old child. Her house was burned down. She and her husband all fled in different directions and does not know whether the husband is alive or dead because its now one week and doesn't know his whereabouts.

(5) A 40 year old woman
She has 5 children of between 3 years and 16 years old. Her husband and father in law were hacked to death. Her mother in law was beaten senselessly and now admitted in Hospital.

(6) A 15 years old
Has 2 other very little brothers, one 3 years and one 5 years. Their father and mother were killed and were able to hang on their neighbor to a police camp and later evacuated to the show ground refugee camp.

(7) A 46 year old man
His son was shot with arrows, His father 78 years old butchered to death, His wife beaten senselessly and now admitted in hospital, His cows and shop looted.

(8) A 14 year old and a 15 years are brothers who are both in Class 6. They don't know whether their parents are life or dead.

(9) A woman
Her husband was killed using Machetes, Mother in law beaten by machete and recovering. She has 2 little children.

(10) A woman
She has 6 children and her husband was killed.

My Observations and Comments:
We have a very high risk of street Children increasing due to children that have lost their parents and have no where to go.
We have a very high risk of having so many Orphans as children have and continue to lose both parents in these clashes.
There is a very high risk of prostitution since life has become hard for young girls and mothers who have been left homeless without anything and have no means of survival.
There is going to be a high risk of robbery because of the many young people who have also been left homeless and without and have no means of survival/ employment.
We will need to begin preparations now to help a few that we can either in absorbing them in Orphanages as well as beginning a training center/ feeding center for them in order to train them in skills.
Even as Koffi Annan continues to broker peace through mediation, Its going to be so hard for all these people to go back to their homes as they fear, the same people who killed their loved ones and destroyed their properties are still in there neighbourhood.
Prayer and support for foodstuffs continues to be needed until such time that they will go back.
God bless you

A NewLetter from Kenya for prayer in Kenya
on: Tue 19 of Feb, 2008 [13:40 UTC]
Thank you so much for obeying God's voice to pray for us. Your prayers` have greatly been felt here and have kept, That is why we are alive today. We continue praying for you as a church that God will give you grace and use you to reach many lives around the world. God helped us to combine efforts with Covenant City Church and bought the following:-
Blankets
Rice,
Maize floor
Used Clothes
Mats,
Buckets
Soap
Lamps
Medicine
Cooking oil
Paraffin
Sugar
Meat
Tea leaves
Salt

We are daily visiting this people heart ministering to them, teaching them the ways of God and asking them to forgive those who burnt them, and not to revenge, Unless we contact full teaching, The hatred that is deeply rooted in the lives of people may quickly send them for revenge and the situation may become so worse.

It is our prayer that all saints everywhere should pray for the nation of Kenya
especially during these times of great trials. When tribal clashes are going on people
are killing each other due to incitements by politicians. Pray that the tribal hatred will
come to an end. Pray for the increasing number of orphans and widows in the country.
Pray that God will bring peace for this country. Pray for political stability and godly
leadership. Pray for the Preaching of the Word and that God will give his servants the
true heart of the Gospel not to look on the challenges but to focus on the call.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE PROTECTION OF GOD'S CHILDREN and ESPECIALLY FOR
THOSE MINISTERING TO THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE IN DANGEROUS PLACES!

Pray especially that a great harvest of souls shall come forth, while these precious
ministers reach out to them in great compassion while providing in their immediate
need
